Wanda's Book Reviews

I am currently reading my way through a long list of science fiction and fantasy titles.  (http://www.npr.org/2011/08/07/138938145/science-fiction-and-fantasy-finalists if you are interested in the list).

Currently reading

The Mummy Case
Elizabeth Peters
Progress: 49/327 pages
Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers
Mary Roach
The Great Starvation Experiment: The Heroic Men Who Starved so That Millions Could Live
Todd Tucker
The Green Man
Kingsley Amis

Reading progress update: I've read 48 out of 399 pages.

Jurassic Park - Michael Crichton

Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying the book so far, but I really object to scientists being depicted as self-absorbed, immoral people willing to take money from anyone to further their "dangerous" research.  The scientists that I know are personable and highly moral and carefully consider their sources of funding.

Fiction like this, as much fun as it is, contributes to the whole distrust of science that seems to be running rampant these days.

Rant over.
